Second hat,  Moleskin taupe hat also by Jannesa Leone with leather and feather trim.

Third hat, the ever classic grey slouchy beanie by Acme.

Fourth hat, cute ski bunny look for the slopes, by Hat Attack.

Fifth hat, this is a vintage hombre leopard hat I have had for many many years, I still love it!

I consider hats style investments, check out Shopbop and Revolve for the most current looks.

Friday Favs: Take Me Out

Take me out…

Whether you are going out on a date night or out with the girls, it’s always good to have pieces you can mix and layer. I love a cool little dress with an ankle boot, and a leather jacket. I have picked out a few dresses you can wear with booties, or heels. Since the holidays are under way make your holiday dress selection based on wearability and occasion. Going with a solid color is always the best; you can mix it up with different accessories, and shoes. If you want to go outside of the box try different hats, and faux fur vests. All of the above selections can be found at revolveclothing.com

Detox Tips to Keep Your Summer Glow

Lemon

Daily Cleanse Guide: Essential Steps During your Transformation

  • Begin your Day with Lemon Water: See my Moving Morning Water recipe below – you can also just make a mug of warm water with the juice from half a lemon, a splash of Apple Cider Vinegar, raw honey or stevia and a small pinch of cayenne and drink it down. The lemon is very alkalising to your body and will help jump-‐start your digestion and elimination. Honey is very soothing to your digestive system in Chinese medicine and the cayenne gives it a kick to light your inner fire and metabolism for the day. Be sure to take a probiotic capsule with your morning lemon water. I love Dr. Ohhira’s or BioMedica Nutraceuticals brands for probiotics.

  • Move Your Body / Sweat: The main system in the body that carries toxins and wastes is called the lymphatic system. Unlike the cardiovascular system (heart, arteries, veins, blood), the lymphatic system doesn’t have a pump and relies on your movement to transport the toxins out of the system. Moving your body and ideally sweating a little will dramatically improve your detoxification efforts. The level of intensity of exercise during your cleanse should be based on your energy level. Take it easy if you feel lethargic, all of the organs in your body are working double time to process toxic matter that is being released. Light Ocean Swimming, Walking, Yoga, Tai Chi and Qi Gong and Rebounding (jumping on a small trampoline) are all great choices. Other options are to use a sauna, ideally an infra-‐red sauna, or take a detox bath with Epsom salt

  • Dry Brush: Use a dry brush to flush your lymphatic system before you bathe in the morning and before you go to bed in the evening. Your skin is the largest organ of elimination and dead cells accumulate preventing the skin from removing toxins effectively. Before you shower, stroke the brush in a long sweeping movement over your dry skin. Start at the bottom of the feet and then move up the legs, bum, arms and back. Always brush towards the heart. Do this for 2 minutes, starting with once daily and building up to twice daily. Be sure to shower afterwards to wash off dead skin cells. Benefits of skin brushing include: stimulates the release of toxins, exfoliates the skin – also improving the texture, helps muscle tone and more even distribution of fat deposits, which tightens the skin and can even reduce signs of cellulite, improved blood flow, which will revitalize you, especially if you sit at a desk all day.

  • Use Herbal Teas: Herbal teas will help support your organs during the detoxification process and are also a soothing drink that you can have as much as you want of during the day. Brands I love in Australia: Your Tea, Hilde Hemmes’ Herbals and Artemis Liver and Kidney Detox teas. Yerba Mate and BonVit Dandelion are excellent substitutions for coffee.

  • Relax: Your body is working hard to eliminate and detoxify and it’s expected that you may feel more tired than usual. Take the time to relax more than you typically do, and maybe allow yourself to do more of this in your every day life – taking a few minutes to walk and enjoy the sunshine and breath in fresh air, take a break to read a good book, meditation, yoga and light stretching and detox baths are all great activities to take it down a notch.

  • Prepare: Set yourself up for success by blocking this time on your calendar for healing and rejuvenation. Try to avoid meals out where you may not have healthy options or social events where you will be tempted to indulge in food / beverage you have committed to omitting during this time. Make time to plan your meals and shop and prep all produce you will need over the weekend if you do not have as much time during the week. You can make and freeze vegetable or bone broths which will make it easy to quickly blend soups or as a base for congee, pre-‐juice your lemons for your daily lemonade, and wash and prep vegetables into bags specific for salads, soups & smoothies.

Brrr it’s Cold in Here

Anyone who lives in a region that receives all four seasons knows full well that during fall and winter, a jacket is their best friend. Since we live in them for the majority of the year we get this exciting opportunity to buy several, because we actually need them. Here at Sway and Cake, we love layering and make any excuse to do so! So with that, you can tell your credit card, husband, boyfriend, or significant other that it’s time to prepare for this weather change! My favorite four are: the bomber, the blazer, the parka, and the leather jacket. These transitional pieces are the perfect complement to your wardrobe! Here’s why:

Bomber: Bomber jackets are an easy way to make your weekend outfit fun. Check out Rag & Bone is a great brand that makes edgy, comfortable, and cool bombers.

Blazer: I know when everyone thinks of blazer they think of their work attire, but a blazer can also be worn casually and oversized if you are looking for stylish comfort.

Leather: A leather jacket has always been my lifesaver when I feel like I am missing something. Veda and IRO Paris make some of the coolest leather jackets if you want a buttery leather staple that will last foreva!

Parka: The parka is perfect during those rainy and really cold days. Although the freezing weather hasn’t started, it doesn’t hurt to be prepared! Capulet currently has great military inspired parkas at an insane price point.

Isabel Marant Bonny Python Over Basket Sneakers

I have always been a sneaker girl.  More, now than ever, you will see sneakers as a fashion statement.  You can find $40 dollar, Chuck Taylor’s, to $ 900 dollar Isabel Marant sneakers.  I have splurged on a few, and also saved. I do find mixing it up always works.  I think for one, every girl should have a black and white pair of Chuck’s.  In my opinion, they look good with everything, and only get better with wear and tear.  If you want to go for a splurge, make sure the style you pick is not too trendy so you can get lots of wear.  My splurge fav’s are Golden Goose and Isabel Marant, I have pairs from years ago that I still wear.  Hightops are also cool, pair with some skinny jeans and a fun signature tee.  For a good selection of trend sneakers, give Elyse Walker a go.

Cheers,

T. Kilburn xo
